PORTOS – for innovative transport engineering

Since the formation of the company, the ebm specialists have acquired special know-how in the field of transport engineering. With the implementation of increasingly large projects it did, however, become clear that the systems available on the market for the detection and control of vehicles lacked reliability. This was the reason why ebm in recent years developed its own, innovative magnetic field sensors for various system uses and applications in transport engineering – PORTOS.

And this is how PORTOS from ebm functions

Every compass knows that the Earth’s magnetic field works always and everywhere. If one introduces a ferromagnetic body (e.g. iron) into this field, it becomes measurably deflected. With the help of what are known as magnetic field sensors, these changes can be detected and evaluated with the appropriate electronics. Depending on the evaluation not only can metal and its quantity be identified purposefully, but the direction can also be determined in which it is moving or being moved. Our sensors have one, two or three evaluatable axes. Depending on requirements, measurement is carried out from the ceiling, from the wall or from the floor.

The applications

  • Individual space detection of passenger cars in parking space units
  • Drive-through counting of passenger cars
  • Detection of vehicles for traffic signal systems
  • Detection of fork-lift trucks in operation on ramps
  • Detection of trucks on car parks
  • and much more
